About the library
Kauniainen City Library is located in the center of Kauniainen, next to the railroad tracks. The address is Thurmaninaukio 6.You can recognize the building by its white brick façade.
The library has been located in the current building since 1986. The library activity in Kauniainen is, however, much older than so. The citizens of Kauniainen have had their own library since 1924. In other words, we have just celebrated our 80th anniversary in 2004.
During the summer of 2005, the library was renovated in order to create a spacious feeling inside the building and accomodate for new library services.
In the autumn of 2007 the rebuilding of the city center started. About 200 new apartments will rise next to the library. The project will be finished in 2011. In November 2007 the library was surrounded by a protective fence. NCC started driving piles into ground. The piling area is south of the library and is bounded by the Thurman park and Käsityönkatu. So the library is surrounded by the construction area. The library activities keep on even in this period. It is possible to reach the library by car and also to park the car in the vicinity. There is a possibility that the opening hours have to be diminished or even that the library has to be closed temporary.
Welcome to the library!
